House . . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Budget (Altman) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 2 3 Delete lines 14 - 24 4 and insert: 5 (1)(a)1. The purpose of a crisis stabilization unit is to 6 stabilize and redirect a client to the most appropriate and 7 least restrictive community setting available, consistent with 8 the client’s needs. Crisis stabilization units may screen, 9 assess, and admit for stabilization persons who present 10 themselves to the unit and persons who are brought to the unit 11 under s. 394.463. Clients may be provided 24-hour observation, 12 medication prescribed by a physician or psychiatrist, and other 13 appropriate services. Crisis stabilization units shall provide 14 services regardless of the client’s ability to pay and shall be 15 limited in size to a maximum of 30 beds. 16 2. The department shall implement a demonstration project 17 in region 18 to test the impact of expanding maximum beds 18 authorized in crisis stabilization units from 30 to 50 beds. 19 Specifically, the department shall: 20 a. Authorize existing public or private crisis 21 stabilization units in region 18 to expand bed capacity to a 22 maximum of 50; and 23 b. Assess the impact on the availability of crisis 24 stabilization services to clients. 25 26 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 27 And the title is amended as follows: 28 Delete lines 3 - 5 29 and insert: 30 amending s. 394.875, F.S.; requiring the Department of 31 Children and Family Services to implement a 32 demonstration project to test the impact of expanding 33 maximum beds authorized in crisis stabilization units 34 in a specified region and to assess the impact on the 35 availability of crisis stabilization services to 36 clients; providing an effective date.
