Florida Senate - 2011 SB 1052 By Senator Altman 24-00765-11 20111052__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to crisis stabilization units; 3 amending s. 394.875, F.S.; increasing the number of 4 client beds a crisis stabilization unit is authorized 5 to provide; providing an effective date. 6 7 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 8 9 Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of section 10 394.875, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: 11 394.875 Crisis stabilization units, residential treatment 12 facilities, and residential treatment centers for children and 13 adolescents; authorized services; license required.— 14 (1)(a) The purpose of a crisis stabilization unit is to 15 stabilize and redirect a client to the most appropriate and 16 least restrictive community setting available, consistent with 17 the client’s needs. Crisis stabilization units may screen, 18 assess, and admit for stabilization persons who present 19 themselves to the unit and persons who are brought to the unit 20 under s. 394.463. Clients may be provided 24-hour observation, 21 medication prescribed by a physician or psychiatrist, and other 22 appropriate services. Crisis stabilization units shall provide 23 services regardless of the client’s ability to pay and shall be 24 limited in size to a maximum of 5030beds. 25 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
