Florida Senate - 2011 SB 1488 By Senator Evers 2-00839B-11 20111488__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to motor vehicle license plates; 3 creating s. 320.0892, F.S.; providing for the 4 Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to 5 issue a Silver Star license plate, without payment of 6 the license tax, to persons meeting specified 7 criteria; creating s. 320.08921, F.S.; providing for 8 the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to 9 issue a Distinguished Service Cross license plate, 10 without payment of the license tax, to persons meeting 11 specified criteria; creating s. 320.08922, F.S.; 12 providing for the Department of Highway Safety and 13 Motor Vehicles to issue a Navy Cross license plate, 14 without payment of the license tax, to persons meeting 15 specified criteria; creating s. 320.08923, F.S.; 16 providing for the Department of Highway Safety and 17 Motor Vehicles to issue an Air Force Cross license 18 plate, without payment of the license tax, to persons 19 meeting specified criteria; providing an effective 20 date. 21 22 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 23 24 Section 1. Section 320.0892, Florida Statutes is created to 25 read: 26 320.0892 Motor vehicle license plates to recipients of the 27 Silver Star.—Any United States citizen who is a resident of 28 Florida and who was awarded the Silver Star while serving as a 29 member of the United States Armed Forces may, upon application 30 to the department, be issued a license plate on which is stamped 31 the words “Silver Star” followed by the serial number. Upon 32 submission of the application and proof that the applicant meets 33 the qualifications of this section, the plate shall be issued 34 without payment of the license tax imposed by s. 320.08. 35 Section 2. Section 320.08921, Florida Statutes, is created 36 to read: 37 320.08921 Motor vehicle license plates to recipients of the 38 Distinguished Service Cross.—Any United States citizen who is a 39 resident of Florida and who was awarded the Distinguished 40 Service Cross while serving as a member of the United States 41 Armed Forces may, upon application to the department, be issued 42 a license plate on which is stamped the words “Distinguished 43 Service Cross” followed by the serial number. Upon submission of 44 the application and proof that the applicant meets the 45 qualifications of this section, the plate shall be issued 46 without payment of the license tax imposed by s. 320.08. 47 Section 3. Section 320.08922, Florida Statutes, is created 48 to read: 49 320.08922 Motor vehicle license plates to recipients of the 50 Navy Cross.—Any United States citizen who is a resident of 51 Florida and who was awarded the Navy Cross while serving as a 52 member of the United States Armed Forces may, upon application 53 to the department, be issued a license plate on which is stamped 54 the words “Navy Cross” followed by the serial number. Upon 55 submission of the application and proof that the applicant meets 56 the qualifications of this section, the plate shall be issued 57 without payment of the license tax imposed by s. 320.08. 58 Section 4. Section 320.08923, Florida Statutes, is created 59 to read: 60 320.08923 Motor vehicle license plates to recipients of the 61 Air Force Cross.—Any United States citizen who is a resident of 62 Florida and who was awarded the Air Force Cross while serving as 63 a member of the United States Armed Forces may, upon application 64 to the department, be issued a license plate on which is stamped 65 the words “Air Force Cross” followed by the serial number. Upon 66 submission of the application and proof that the applicant meets 67 the qualifications of this section, the plate shall be issued 68 without payment of the license tax imposed by s. 320.08. 69 Section 5. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
