Florida Senate - 2011 CS for SB 1754 By the Committee on Banking and Insurance; and Senator Garcia 597-03866-11 20111754c1 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to health insurance; creating s. 3 624.24, F.S.; prohibiting a person from being 4 compelled to purchase health insurance except under 5 specified conditions; specifying that the act does not 6 prohibit the collection of certain debts; providing an 7 effective date. 8 9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 10 11 Section 1. Section 624.24, Florida Statutes, is created to 12 read: 13 624.24 Prohibition against requiring the purchase of health 14 insurance; exceptions.— 15 (1) A person may not be compelled to purchase health 16 insurance, except as a condition of: 17 (a) Public employment; 18 (b) Voluntary participation in a state or local benefit; 19 (c) Operating a dangerous instrumentality; 20 (d) Undertaking an occupation having a risk of occupational 21 injury or illness; 22 (e) An order of child support; or 23 (f) Activity between private persons. 24 (2) This section does not prohibit the collection of debts 25 lawfully incurred for health insurance. 26 Section 2. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
