    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing March 23, 2011, as “The
    3         Links, Incorporated, Day” at the Capitol.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, with its mission and
    6  purpose of friendship through community service, is comprised of
    7  more than 12,000 women members, located in 42 states, the
    8  District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and
    9         WHEREAS, members of The Links, Incorporated, are women of
   10  African ancestry who are well-educated, are highly skilled and
   11  trained, and are capable of attacking adverse conditions and
   12  fostering remedies that are of a critical nature to the well
   13  being of society, such as the issue of childhood obesity and its
   14  affect on African American youth, and
   15         WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, through its functional
   16  facets of International Trends and Services, National Trends and
   17  Services, The Arts, Services to Youth, and Health and Human
   18  Services, with emphasis on legislative concerns, has a vision
   19  and goal of impacting society through its relevant and creative
   20  initiatives, relying heavily on the expertise of its members who
   21  are doctors, nutritionists, educators, social workers, and
   22  nurses, in collaboration with other specialists, and
   23         WHEREAS, the Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated, has
   24  launched its Childhood Obesity Initiative and, in partnership
   25  with the American Heart Association, is collaborating throughout
   26  the Southern Area with other well-respected and highly educated
   27  professionals and organizations to attain its goal of erasing
   28  the ill effects of this dreaded condition in African American
   29  youth, who are statistically most adversely affected, and
   30         WHEREAS, there is a concerted effort throughout the United
   31  States to prevent and eradicate childhood obesity, and the
   32  Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated, wishes to go on record
   33  as having been involved and having contributed to the
   34  elimination of this condition in African American youth through
   35  education, nutrition counseling, medical attention, promoting
   36  physical fitness, and providing monetary support to schools,
   37  social agencies, and other entities, and
   38         WHEREAS, those Links hereby assembled are from the Southern
   39  Area of The Links, Incorporated, and many, specifically from the
   40  State of Florida, are at The Capitol to show their solidarity
   41  and concern for the elimination of childhood obesity, NOW
   42  THEREFORE,

   44  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   45  
   46         That the Senate welcomes the members of the Southern Area
   47  of The Links, Incorporated, especially the Florida members of
   48  the Southern Area, who are passionate about the eradication of
   49  childhood obesity within the Southern Area, including the State
   50  of Florida, and recognizes March 23, 2011, as “The Links,
   51  Incorporated, Day” at the Capitol.
   52         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
   53  the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Mary F. Currie,
   54  Director of the Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated, as a
   55  tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
