| 2 | A resolution encouraging the donation of surplus fire |
| 3 | equipment and materials to Florida's volunteer fire |

| 6 | WHEREAS, approximately 80 percent of the fire departments |
| 7 | in the United States are manned by volunteers, and |
| 8 | WHEREAS, surplus fire equipment and materials have been |
| 9 | donated to countries overseas by municipal and other fire |
| 10 | departments, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, almost half of the expenses of volunteer fire |
| 12 | departments in this state could be lessened by such donations to |
| 13 | volunteer fire departments, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, surplus fire equipment and materials paid for by |
| 15 | taxpayers should be donated to sister fire departments in this |
| 16 | state, and |
| 17 | WHEREAS, the City of Hallandale Beach, the Broward County |
| 18 | League of Cities, the Florida League of Cities, the United |
| 19 | States Conference of Mayors, and the National League of Cities |
| 20 | have adopted resolutions encouraging the donation of surplus |
| 21 | fire equipment and materials to volunteer fire departments, NOW, |
| 22 | THEREFORE, |

| 24 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 25 | Florida: |

| 27 | That the Florida House of Representatives strongly |
| 28 | encourages the donation of surplus fire equipment and materials |
| 29 | to Florida's volunteer fire departments. |
