1	House Resolution
2	A resolution encouraging the donation of surplus fire
3	equipment and materials to Florida's volunteer fire
4	departments.

6	WHEREAS, approximately 80 percent of the fire departments
7	in the United States are manned by volunteers, and
8	WHEREAS, surplus fire equipment and materials have been
9	donated to countries overseas by municipal and other fire
10	departments, and
11	WHEREAS, almost half of the expenses of volunteer fire
12	departments in this state could be lessened by such donations to
13	volunteer fire departments, and
14	WHEREAS, surplus fire equipment and materials paid for by
15	taxpayers should be donated to sister fire departments in this
16	state, and
17	WHEREAS, the City of Hallandale Beach, the Broward County
18	League of Cities, the Florida League of Cities, the United
19	States Conference of Mayors, and the National League of Cities
20	have adopted resolutions encouraging the donation of surplus
21	fire equipment and materials to volunteer fire departments, NOW,
22	THEREFORE,

24	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
25	Florida:

27	That the Florida House of Representatives strongly
28	encourages the donation of surplus fire equipment and materials
29	to Florida's volunteer fire departments.
