The Committee on Rules (Flores) recommended the following:
1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment)

3 Delete lines 37 - 56
4 and insert:
5 (3) Notwithstanding any other provision of this section,
6 each current member of a judicial nominating commission
7 appointed directly by the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar
8 shall serve the remainder of his or her term, unless removed for
9 cause. The terms of all other members of a judicial nominating
10 commission are hereby terminated, and the Governor shall appoint
11 new members to each judicial nominating commission in the
12 following manner:
13 (a) Two appointments for terms ending July 1, 2002, one of
14 which shall be an appointment selected from nominations
15 submitted by the Board of Governors of The Florida Bar pursuant
16 to paragraph (1)(a);
17 (b) Two appointments for terms ending July 1, 2003; and
18 (c) Two appointments for terms ending July 1, 2004.

20 Every subsequent appointment, except an appointment to fill a
21 vacant, unexpired term, shall be for 4 years. Each expired term
22 or vacancy shall be filled by appointment in the same manner as
23 the member whose position is being filled.
24 Section 2. A member of a judicial nominating commission
25 serving on the effective date of this act shall serve the
26 remainder of his or her term, unless removed for cause.
