| 7 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 8 |

| 9 | Section 1. Paragraph (f) of subsection (4) of section |
| 10 | 1001.42, Florida Statutes, is amended to read: |
| 11 | 1001.42 Powers and duties of district school board.-The |
| 12 | district school board, acting as a board, shall exercise all |
| 13 | powers and perform all duties listed below: |
| 14 | (4) ESTABLISHMENT, ORGANIZATION, AND OPERATION OF |
| 15 | SCHOOLS.-Adopt and provide for the execution of plans for the |
| 16 | establishment, organization, and operation of the schools of the |
| 17 | district, including, but not limited to, the following: |
| 18 | (f) Opening and closing of schools; fixing uniform date.- |
| 19 | Adopt policies for the opening and closing of schools and fix |
| 20 | uniform dates; however, beginning with the 2007-2008 school |
| 21 | year, the opening date for schools in the district may not be |
| 22 | earlier than 14 days before Labor Day each year. |
| 23 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011. |
