10 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
11 |
|
12 | Section 1. Subsection (4) of section 1006.07, Florida |
13 | Statutes, is amended to read: |
14 | 1006.07 District school board duties relating to student |
15 | discipline and school safety.-The district school board shall |
16 | provide for the proper accounting for all students, for the |
17 | attendance and control of students at school, and for proper |
18 | attention to health, safety, and other matters relating to the |
19 | welfare of students, including: |
20 | (4) EMERGENCY DRILLS; EMERGENCY PROCEDURES.- |
21 | (a) Formulate and prescribe policies and procedures for |
22 | emergency drills and for actual emergencies, including, but not |
23 | limited to, fires, natural disasters, and bomb threats, for all |
24 | the public schools of the district which comprise grades K-12. |
25 | District school board policies shall include commonly used alarm |
26 | system responses for specific types of emergencies and |
27 | verification by each school that drills have been provided as |
28 | required by law and fire protection codes. The emergency |
29 | response agency that is responsible for notifying the school |
30 | district for each type of emergency must be listed in the |
31 | district's emergency response policy. |
32 | (b) The district school board shall Establish model |
33 | emergency management and emergency preparedness procedures, |
34 | including emergency notification procedures pursuant to |
35 | paragraph (a), for the following life-threatening emergencies: |
36 | 1. Weapon-use and hostage situations. |
37 | 2. Hazardous materials or toxic chemical spills. |
38 | 3. Weather emergencies, including hurricanes, tornadoes, |
39 | and severe storms. |
40 | 4. Exposure as a result of a manmade emergency. |
41 | Section 2. Subsection (16) is added to section 1002.42, |
42 | Florida Statutes, to read: |
43 | 1002.42 Private schools.- |
44 | (16) EMERGENCY PROCEDURES.-The emergency response agencies |
45 | identified in a district school board's emergency response |
46 | policy pursuant to s. 1006.07(4) that are responsible for |
47 | notifying the school district of an occurrence that threatens |
48 | student safety shall also notify private schools in the district |
49 | that request such notification by opting into the district |
50 | school board's emergency notification procedures. |
51 | Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011. |
