House Comm: RCS . 03/17/2011 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Military Affairs, Space, and Domestic Security (Bennett) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment 2 3 Delete everything after the enacting clause 4 and insert: 5 Section 1. Section 265.003, Florida Statutes, is created to 6 read: 7 265.003 Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame.— 8 (1) It is the intent of the Legislature to recognize and 9 honor those military veterans who, through their works and lives 10 during or after military service, have made a significant 11 contribution to the State of Florida. 12 (2) There is established the Florida Veterans’ Hall of 13 Fame. 14 (a) The Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame shall be 15 administered by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs without 16 appropriation of state funds. 17 (b) The Department of Management Services shall set aside 18 an area on the Plaza Level of the Capitol Building along the 19 northeast front wall and shall consult with the Department of 20 Veterans’ Affairs regarding the design and theme of the area. 21 (c) Each person who is inducted into the Florida Veterans’ 22 Hall of Fame shall have his or her name placed on a plaque 23 displayed in the designated area of the Capitol. 24 (3)(a) The Department of Veterans’ Affairs shall annually 25 accept nominations of persons to be considered for induction 26 into the Florida Veterans’ Hall of Fame and shall transmit its 27 recommendations to the Governor and the Cabinet who shall select 28 the nominees to be inducted. 29 (b) In making such recommendations, the department shall 30 give precedence to veterans who were born in Florida or adopted 31 this state as their home state or base of operation and who have 32 made a significant contribution to this state in civic, 33 business, public service, or other pursuits. 34 (4) The Department of Veterans’ Affairs may establish 35 criteria and set specific time periods for acceptance of 36 nominations and for the process of selecting nominees for 37 membership and establish a formal induction ceremony to coincide 38 with the annual commemoration of Veterans’ Day. 39 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2011.
