2 | A memorial to the Congress of the United States, urging |
3 | Congress to propose to the states an amendment to the |
4 | Constitution of the United States that would limit the |
5 | terms of office of members of the Congress to 12 years. |

7 | WHEREAS, Article V of the Constitution of the United States |
8 | authorizes Congress to propose amendments to the Constitution |
9 | which shall become valid when ratified by the states, and |
10 | WHEREAS, a continuous and growing concern has been |
11 | expressed that the best interests of this nation will be served |
12 | by limiting the terms of members of Congress, a concern |
13 | expressed by the founding fathers, incorporated into the |
14 | Articles of Confederation, attempted through legislation adopted |
15 | by state legislatures, and documented in recent media polls, |
16 | NOW, THEREFORE, |

18 | Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

20 | That the Florida Legislature respectfully petitions the |
21 | Congress of the United States to propose to the states an |
22 | amendment to the Constitution of the United States to read as |
23 | follows: |

25 | A person may not appear on the ballot for re-election to |
26 | the office of Senator or Representative in Congress if, by the |
27 | end of the current term of office, the person will have served, |
28 | or but for resignation, would have served, in that office for |
29 | twelve consecutive years. |
30 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be |
31 | dispatched to the President of the United States, to the |
32 | President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the |
33 | United States House of Representatives, and to each member of |
34 | the Florida delegation to the United States Congress. |
