House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing March 29, 2011, as "Florida Keys
3Day" in Tallahassee.

5     WHEREAS, the Florida Keys are a unique chain of coral reef
6islands that stretch 110 miles from Key Largo to Key West, and
7     WHEREAS, the portion of US 1 that traverses the Keys is
8Florida's only All-American Road and is comprised of 42 bridges
9which connect the vast span of over 800 islands and includes the
10Seven Mile Bridge, and
11     WHEREAS, the Florida Keys are considered to be both the
12diving and saltwater sport fishing capitals of the world,
13offering reefs, artificial and historical wrecks, and a
14diversity of fish species rarely found in any other location,
15and
16     WHEREAS, the Florida Keys were home to Henry Flagler's
17Overseas Railroad, referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World
18in its day, which was completed in 1912 and operated for 23
19years carrying passengers to Key West until its destruction in
201935, and
21     WHEREAS, Key West is the southernmost city in the United
22States and is geographically closer to Havana, Cuba, than any
23other city in the country, and
24     WHEREAS, the Florida Keys, as America's own tropical
25paradise, have attracted some of the most talented artists,
26writers, fishermen, and presidents to call the islands their
27home, NOW, THEREFORE,

29Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30Florida:

32     That the House of Representatives recognizes March 29,
332011, as "Florida Keys Day" in Tallahassee and applauds the
34residents, visitors, and elected officials who have made the
35Florida Keys flourish and who make the State of Florida a better
36place to live.
