| 5 | WHEREAS, the Florida Keys are a unique chain of coral reef |
| 6 | islands that stretch 110 miles from Key Largo to Key West, and |
| 7 | WHEREAS, the portion of US 1 that traverses the Keys is |
| 8 | Florida's only All-American Road and is comprised of 42 bridges |
| 9 | which connect the vast span of over 800 islands and includes the |
| 10 | Seven Mile Bridge, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, the Florida Keys are considered to be both the |
| 12 | diving and saltwater sport fishing capitals of the world, |
| 13 | offering reefs, artificial and historical wrecks, and a |
| 14 | diversity of fish species rarely found in any other location, |
| 15 | and |
| 16 | WHEREAS, the Florida Keys were home to Henry Flagler's |
| 17 | Overseas Railroad, referred to as the Eighth Wonder of the World |
| 18 | in its day, which was completed in 1912 and operated for 23 |
| 19 | years carrying passengers to Key West until its destruction in |
| 20 | 1935, and |
| 21 | WHEREAS, Key West is the southernmost city in the United |
| 22 | States and is geographically closer to Havana, Cuba, than any |
| 23 | other city in the country, and |
| 24 | WHEREAS, the Florida Keys, as America's own tropical |
| 25 | paradise, have attracted some of the most talented artists, |
| 26 | writers, fishermen, and presidents to call the islands their |
| 27 | home, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 29 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 30 | Florida: |

| 32 | That the House of Representatives recognizes March 29, |
| 33 | 2011, as "Florida Keys Day" in Tallahassee and applauds the |
| 34 | residents, visitors, and elected officials who have made the |
| 35 | Florida Keys flourish and who make the State of Florida a better |
| 36 | place to live. |
