House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing March 23, 2011, as "The Links,
3Incorporated, Day" at the Capitol.

5     WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, with its mission and
6purpose of friendship through community service, is comprised of
7more than 12,000 women members, located in 42 states, the
8District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas, and
9     WHEREAS, members of The Links, Incorporated, are women of
10African ancestry who are well-educated, are highly skilled and
11trained, and are capable of attacking adverse conditions and
12fostering remedies that are of a critical nature to the well-
13being of society, such as the issue of childhood obesity and its
14effect on African-American youth, and
15     WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, through its functional
16facets of International Trends and Services, National Trends and
17Services, The Arts, Services to Youth, and Health and Human
18Services, with emphasis on legislative concerns, has a vision
19and goal of impacting society through its relevant and creative
20initiatives, relying heavily on the expertise of its members who
21are doctors, nutritionists, educators, social workers, and
22nurses, in collaboration with other specialists, and
23     WHEREAS, the Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated, has
24launched its Childhood Obesity Initiative and, in partnership
25with the American Heart Association, is collaborating throughout
26the Southern Area with other well-respected and highly educated
27professionals and organizations to attain its goal of erasing
28the ill effects of this dreaded condition in African-American
29youth, who are statistically most adversely affected, and
30     WHEREAS, there is a concerted effort throughout the United
31States to prevent and eradicate childhood obesity, and the
32Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated, wishes to go on record
33as having been involved and having contributed to the
34elimination of this condition in African-American youth through
35education, nutrition counseling, medical attention, promoting
36physical fitness, and providing monetary support to schools,
37social agencies, and other entities, and
38     WHEREAS, those Links hereby assembled are from the Southern
39Area of The Links, Incorporated, and many, specifically from the
40State of Florida, are at The Capitol to show their solidarity
41and concern for the elimination of childhood obesity, NOW
42THEREFORE,

44Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
45Florida:

47     That the Florida House of Representatives welcomes the
48members of the Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated,
49especially the Florida members of the Southern Area, who are
50passionate about the eradication of childhood obesity within the
51Southern Area, including the State of Florida, and recognizes
52March 23, 2011, as "The Links, Incorporated, Day" at the
53Capitol.
54     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
55presented to Mary F. Currie, Director of the Southern Area of
56The Links, Incorporated, as a tangible token of the sentiments
57expressed herein.
