3 | Firefighters Day" in Florida. |

5 | WHEREAS, volunteer firefighters do not lose their lives in |
6 | vain, but do so in an attempt to preserve and protect the lives, |
7 | property, and general well-being of others, and |
8 | WHEREAS, many fire departments in the United States are |
9 | manned by volunteers, and |
10 | WHEREAS, this service is given freely, often at great |
11 | personal sacrifice, so that all citizens can enjoy the benefits |
12 | of modern fire protection services that may otherwise be |
13 | unaffordable to the affected communities, and |
14 | WHEREAS, to honor the service and sacrifice of these |
15 | extraordinary citizens, it is appropriate to set aside one day |
16 | each year for observances at which all Floridians are able to |
17 | show their appreciation for the contributions of Florida's |
18 | volunteer firefighters, NOW, THEREFORE, |

20 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
21 | Florida: |

23 | That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes the |
24 | extraordinary contribution that volunteer firefighters make to |
25 | their communities in the protection of life and property and |
26 | commends those municipal and other fire departments in this |
27 | state that donate surplus fire equipment and materials to |
28 | volunteer fire departments in this state in support of their |
29 | unique and important mission. |
30 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Florida House of |
31 | Representatives designates September 12, 2011, as "Volunteer |
32 | Firefighters Day" in Florida and urges appropriate observances |
33 | of the day by all Floridians so that they might honor the great |
34 | contribution to the public safety resulting from the service of, |
35 | and sacrifices made by, volunteer firefighters. |
