2 | A resolution honoring the Florida High School Athletic |
3 | Association for its promotion of interscholastic athletic |
4 | programs and the well-being of its student participants. |

6 | WHEREAS, the Florida High School Athletic Association was |
7 | founded on April 9, 1920, by a group of 29 high school |
8 | principals, and |
9 | WHEREAS, in 1997, the Legislature gave the FHSAA statutory |
10 | recognition as the official governing body for interscholastic |
11 | athletics in Florida, and |
12 | WHEREAS, for over 90 years, the FHSAA, through the |
13 | cooperative efforts of its member schools, has provided |
14 | opportunities for high school students to participate on a fair |
15 | and equitable basis in interscholastic athletic programs, |
16 | providing vital educational benefits, and |
17 | WHEREAS, in the last 5 years, student athletic |
18 | participation in the FHSAA's 748 member schools has increased by |
19 | 23,313, for a total of 242,353 participating students, and |
20 | WHEREAS, the FHSAA has recently added state series |
21 | competitions in boys and girls water polo, competitive |
22 | cheerleading, and lacrosse, and |
23 | WHEREAS, annually, the FHSAA recognizes 12 boys and 12 |
24 | girls as members of the Academic All-State team and awards each |
25 | honoree $1,000 and a medallion, and |
26 | WHEREAS, additionally, the FHSAA annually chooses one boy |
27 | and one girl as the Scholar-Athletes of the Year, awarding each |
28 | athlete an additional $3,000 and a trophy, and |
29 | WHEREAS, the FHSAA also presents an Academic Team Champion |
30 | Award in the fall, winter, and spring seasons to the teams in |
31 | each classification that have earned the highest grade point |
32 | average, and |
33 | WHEREAS, the average GPA for the 2009-2010 Academic Team |
34 | Champion Award winners was 3.96, NOW, THEREFORE, |

39 | That the Florida High School Athletic Association is |
40 | recognized and congratulated on promoting the physical, mental, |
41 | and moral welfare of high school students through its |
42 | supervision, control, and promotion of interscholastic athletic |
43 | programs. |
