1 Senate Resolution
2 A resolution recognizing James “Jimmy” W. Anders, Jr.,
3 for his dedication as a coach, teacher, and mentor.

5 WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” W. Anders, Jr., was born on
6 September 23, 1923, in Arcadia, to the late James and Nettie
7 Ruth Anders, and
8 WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” W. Anders, Jr., was a product of the
9 public school system, graduating from Stanton Senior High School
10 in Jacksonville in 1941, and
11 WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” W. Anders, Jr., attended Florida
12 Agricultural and Mechanical University on a football
13 scholarship, majoring in physical education and earning both his
14 bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and
15 WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” W. Anders, Jr., married his beloved
16 wife, Barbara, and, together, they raised two wonderful
17 children, Wynton Anders and Janis Anders Lindsay, and
18 WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” W. Anders, Jr., began his teaching
19 career in Bartow, where he coached football, and, after moving
20 to Miami, he coached both football and basketball at Mays
21 Junior-Senior High School, and
22 WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” W. Anders, Jr., not only developed
23 scores of athletes, but took pride in mentoring his students by
24 facilitating college admission and scholarship opportunities for
25 numerous student athletes, and
26 WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” W. Anders, Jr., became a guidance
27 counselor at Charles R. Drew Middle School, Miami Central High
28 School, and Miami Douglas MacArthur Senior High School North,
29 and, in 1988, after more than 30 years in the education field,
30 he retired, and
31 WHEREAS, James “Jimmy” W. Anders, Jr., is a life member of
32 the Florida A & M University Alumni Association, a 65-year
33 member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, and a member of The Church
34 of the Open Door, NOW, THEREFORE,

36 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

38 That the Florida Senate recognizes James “Jimmy” W. Anders,
39 Jr., for his dedication as a coach, teacher, and mentor.
