2An act relating to possession of weapons on school
3property; amending s. 790.115, F.S.; prohibiting
4possession of a common pocketknife, except as
5authorized, at a school-sponsored event or on the
6property of any school, school bus, or school bus
7stop; providing criminal penalties; reenacting s.
8921.0022(3)(d), F.S., relating to the offense severity
9ranking chart of the Criminal Punishment Code, to
10incorporate the amendments made to s. 790.115, F.S.,
11in references thereto; providing an effective date.

13Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
14
15     Section 1.  Paragraphs (a) and (b) of subsection (2) of
16section 790.115, Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
17     790.115  Possessing or discharging weapons or firearms at a
18school-sponsored event or on school property prohibited;
19penalties; exceptions.-
20     (2)(a)  A person shall not possess any firearm, electric
21weapon or device, destructive device, or other weapon as defined
22in s. 790.001(13), including a razor blade or box cutter or a
23common pocketknife, except as authorized in support of school-
24sanctioned activities, at a school-sponsored event or on the
25property of any school, school bus, or school bus stop; however,
26a person may carry a firearm:
27     1.  In a case to a firearms program, class, or function
28which has been approved in advance by the principal or chief
29administrative officer of the school as a program or class to
30which firearms could be carried;
31     2.  In a case to a career center having a firearms training
32range; or
33     3.  In a vehicle pursuant to s. 790.25(5),; except that
34school districts may adopt written and published policies that
35waive the exception in this subparagraph for purposes of student
36and campus parking privileges.

38For the purposes of this section, "school" means any preschool,
39elementary school, middle school, junior high school, secondary
40school, career center, or postsecondary school, whether public
41or nonpublic.
42     (b)  A person who willfully and knowingly possesses any
43electric weapon or device, destructive device, or other weapon
44as defined in s. 790.001(13), including a razor blade or box
45cutter or a common pocketknife, except as authorized in support
46of school-sanctioned activities, in violation of this subsection
47commits a felony of the third degree, punishable as provided in
48s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.
49     Section 2.  For the purpose of incorporating the amendment
50made by this act to section 790.115, Florida Statutes, in a
51reference thereto, paragraph (d) of subsection (3) of section
52921.0022, Florida Statutes, is reenacted to read:
