A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to school wellness and physical
3education policies; amending s. 1003.453, F.S.;
4providing requirements for training in cardiopulmonary
5resuscitation as part of basic first-aid training
6encouraged in the school districts; providing an
7effective date.

9Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11     Section 1.  Subsection (4) of section 1003.453, Florida
12Statutes, is amended to read:
13     1003.453  School wellness and physical education policies;
14nutrition guidelines.-
15     (4)  School districts are encouraged to provide basic
16training in first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation
17(CPR), for all students, beginning in grade 6 and every 2 years
18thereafter. As part of the training in CPR, which is based on a
19program that is nationally recognized and uses the most current
20national evidence-based emergency cardiovascular care
21guidelines, students shall learn and practice the psychomotor
22skills associated with performing CPR at least one time prior to
23high school graduation. Psychomotor skills are learned through
24hands-on practice and skills testing which support cognitive
25learning. Private and public partnerships for providing training
26or necessary funding are encouraged.
27     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2012.
