House Memorial
2A memorial to the Congress of the United States
3recognizing the death of Osama bin Laden as a positive
4step forward in the war on terrorism and declaring a
5continuing unity of commitment against terrorism, its
6crimes against humanity, and al-Qaeda.

8     WHEREAS, the actions taken by Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda
9and its networks targeting innocent civilians, including women
10and children, are repugnant, and
11     WHEREAS, Osama bin Laden was the mastermind of the
12September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States of America,
13which murdered 2,977 citizens, and
14     WHEREAS, Osama bin Laden and al-Qaeda were responsible for
15other terrorist attacks against the United States of America,
16including bombing American embassies in Tanzania and Kenya and
17attacking the U.S.S. Cole, and
18     WHEREAS, President Barack Obama took immediate action upon
19learning of the location of Osama bin Laden, and
20     WHEREAS, while resisting capture, Osama bin Laden was
21killed on May 1, 2011, by operatives of the Central Intelligence
22Agency and Navy Seals, and
23     WHEREAS, Osama bin Laden's death provides some degree of
24closure as it relates to September 11, 2001, NOW, THEREFORE,

26Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
27
28     That we recognize the death of Osama bin Laden as a
29positive step forward in the war on terrorism and declare a
30continuing unity of commitment with other states and nations
31against terrorism, its crimes against humanity, and al-Qaeda.
32     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
33dispatched to the President of the United States, to the
34President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the
35United States House of Representatives, and to each member of
36the Florida delegation to the United States Congress.
