Florida Senate - 2012 (NP) SR 700 By Senator Joyner 18-00744-12 2012700__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution honoring the Women’s Heart Health 3 Initiative. 4 5 WHEREAS, heart disease, often called the “silent killer,” 6 continues to be the number one killer of women, with a woman 7 dying from heart disease every 34 seconds, and 8 WHEREAS, heart disease claims more women’s lives than the 9 next eight causes of death combined, including breast cancer, 10 and 11 WHEREAS, two-thirds of American women who die suddenly from 12 heart disease had no prior symptoms, and 13 WHEREAS, African-American and Hispanic women have higher 14 heart disease risk factors than Caucasian women of comparable 15 socioeconomic status, with heart disease being the number one 16 killer of African-American women, and 17 WHEREAS, in an effort to raise awareness about heart 18 disease in women and improve the prevention and treatment of 19 women who suffer from or are at risk for heart disease, the 20 Cardiovascular Research Foundation began the Women’s Heart 21 Health Initiative, and 22 WHEREAS, the Women’s Heart Health Initiative explores 23 nontraditional venues, such as obstetrician and gynecologist 24 appointments, to provide further assistance in the early 25 identification, education, and prevention of heart disease in 26 women, NOW, THEREFORE, 27 28 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 29 30 That the Women’s Heart Health Initiative is commended and 31 honored for its dedicated efforts in the prevention and 32 treatment of heart disease in women.
