    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to assisted living facilities;
    3         amending s. 429.52, F.S.; authorizing a Florida
    4         College System institution to train persons to be
    5         administrators in assisted living facilities; revising
    6         the criteria for a person who seeks to register as a
    7         trainer of administrators in assisted living
    8         facilities; providing an effective date.

   10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   11  
   12         Section 1. Subsections (9) and (10) of section 429.52,
   13  Florida Statutes, are amended to read:
   14         429.52 Staff training and educational programs; core
   15  educational requirement.—
   16         (9)(a) The training required by this section shall be
   17  conducted by:
   18         1. Persons registered with the department as having the
   19  requisite experience and credentials to conduct the training; or
   20         2. A Florida College System institution through its
   21  assisted-living-facility core training program.
   22         (b) A person seeking to register as a trainer must provide
   23  the department with proof of completion of the minimum core
   24  training education requirements, successful passage of the
   25  competency test established under this section, and proof of
   26  compliance with the continuing education requirement in
   27  subsection (4).
   28         (10) A person seeking to register as a trainer must also:
   29         (a) Provide proof of completion of a 4-year degree from an
   30  accredited college or university and must have worked in a
   31  management position in an assisted living facility for 3 years
   32  after being core certified;
   33         (b) Have worked in a management position in an assisted
   34  living facility for 5 years after being core certified and have
   35  1 year of teaching experience as an educator or staff trainer
   36  for persons who work in assisted living facilities or other
   37  long-term care settings;
   38         (c) Have been previously employed as a core trainer for the
   39  department; or
   40         (d) Meet qualifications and standards for a faculty member
   41  at a Florida College System institution; or
   42         (e)(d) Meet other qualification criteria as defined in
   43  rule, which the department may is authorized to adopt.
   44         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2012.
