House Concurrent Resolution
2A concurrent resolution ratifying the proposed
3amendment to the Constitution of the United States
4relating to equal rights for men and women.

6     WHEREAS, during the Second Session of the Ninety-second
7Congress of the United States of America, by a constitutional
8majority of two-thirds, both houses approved the Equal Rights
9Amendment, and
10     WHEREAS, on March 22, 1972, this proposed amendment to the
11Constitution of the United States was sent to the states for
12ratification, and
13     WHEREAS, Article V of the United States Constitution
14authorizes the Legislature of Florida to ratify proposed
15amendments to the Constitution of the United States, and
16     WHEREAS, 35 of the necessary 38 states have already
17ratified the Equal Rights Amendment, and
18     WHEREAS, constitutional equality for men and women
19continues to be timely in the United States and worldwide, and
20many other nations have achieved constitutional equality for
21their men and women, NOW, THEREFORE,

23Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
24Florida, the Senate Concurring:
25
26     That the proposed amendment to the Constitution of the
27United States set forth below is ratified by the Legislature of
28the State of Florida.

"Article ____"
30     "SECTION 1.  Equality of rights under the law shall not be
31denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on
32account of sex."
33     "SECTION 2.  The Congress shall have the power to enforce,
34by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article."
35     "SECTION 3.  This amendment shall take effect two years
36after the date of ratification."
37     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of the
38foregoing preamble and resolution be immediately forwarded by
39the Secretary of State of the State of Florida, under the great
40seal, to the President of the United States, the Secretary of
41State of the United States, the President of the Senate of the
42United States, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of
43the United States, and the Administrator of General Services of
44the United States.
