House Comm: RCS . 01/19/2012 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Transportation (Evers) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 2 3 Delete everything after the enacting clause 4 and insert: 5 Section 1. Section 322.097, Florida Statutes, is created to 6 read: 7 322.097 Teen electronic event notification service.— 8 (1) Upon application and receipt of the appropriate fee, as 9 described in subsection (4), from a parent or guardian of a 10 person who has not attained 18 years of age and who holds a 11 valid driver license or learner’s driver license, the department 12 shall notify the parent or guardian each time any of the 13 following events is added to the person’s driving record: 14 (a) Conviction of any traffic violation. 15 (b) A notice of pending suspension, revocation, 16 disqualification, withdrawal, or cancellation of the licensee’s 17 privilege to drive or driver license. 18 (c) Suspension, revocation, disqualification, withdrawal, 19 or cancellation of the licensee’s privilege to drive or driver 20 license. 21 (d) An at-fault vehicle crash. 22 (2) Forms for applications under subsection (1) shall be as 23 prescribed by the department. 24 (3) Notifications under subsection (1) shall be made 25 electronically to the parent’s or guardian’s e-mail address or 26 telephone text messaging system, as requested by the parent or 27 guardian. The notifications shall be discontinued upon request 28 by the parent or guardian receiving the notifications or when 29 the licensee attains 18 years of age. 30 (4) The department shall charge a one-time fee of $5 to 31 cover the administrative costs of the notifications. Any amounts 32 received which are greater than the cost to administer the 33 program shall be used by the department to promote safe driving 34 by teenagers. 35 (5) The department may adopt rules as necessary to 36 administer this section. 37 Section 2.
