    2         An act relating to carbon monoxide alarms; amending s.
    3         1013.03, F.S.; providing that it is a function of the
    4         Department of Education to require K-12 public school
    5         facilities to install carbon monoxide alarms;
    6         providing an effective date.

    8  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

   10         Section 1. Subsection (13) is added to section 1013.03,
   11  Florida Statutes, to read:
   12         1013.03 Functions of the department and the Board of
   13  Governors.—The functions of the Department of Education as it
   14  pertains to educational facilities of school districts and
   15  Florida College System institutions and of the Board of
   16  Governors as it pertains to educational facilities of state
   17  universities shall include, but not be limited to, the
   18  following:
   19         (13) Require each K-12 public school facility that has a
   20  feature, fixture, or element that emits carbon monoxide as a
   21  byproduct of combustion to install an approved operational
   22  carbon monoxide alarm in accordance with the Florida Building
   23  Code. This carbon monoxide alarm must be connected to the fire
   24  alarm system of the public school facility as a supervisory
   25  signal.
   26         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2013.
