Florida Senate - 2013 SB 1306 By Senator Gibson 9-00376B-13 20131306__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to renters’ insurance; requiring a 3 residential rental agreement to specify whether 4 renters’ insurance is required and to provide a line 5 for a tenant’s initials; requiring an agreement that 6 requires renters’ insurance to specify the coverage 7 required; requiring that an agreement that does not 8 require renters’ insurance include a statement 9 advising the tenant to obtain renters’ insurance; 10 providing an effective date. 11 12 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 13 14 Section 1. Renters’ insurance for residential tenancies.—A 15 rental agreement must specify whether a tenant is required to 16 obtain renters’ insurance and provide a line for the tenant’s 17 initials immediately following that provision. 18 (1) If renters’ insurance is required, the rental agreement 19 must specify the coverage required. 20 (2) If renters’ insurance is not required, the rental 21 agreement must provide a statement in substantially the 22 following form: “The tenant is not required to obtain renters’ 23 insurance; however, the tenant is strongly advised to obtain 24 renters’ insurance to cover damage to or loss of personal 25 property.” 26 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2013.
