    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to education; requiring that the
    3         technology infrastructure, connectivity, and capacity
    4         of all public schools and school districts that
    5         administer statewide standardized assessments pursuant
    6         to s. 1008.22, F.S., be load tested and independently
    7         verified as appropriate, adequate, efficient, and
    8         sustainable; requiring that full implementation of
    9         online common core assessments for all kindergarten
   10         through grade 12 public school students occur only
   11         after the technology infrastructure, connectivity, and
   12         capacity of all public schools and school districts
   13         have been load tested and independently verified as
   14         ready for successful deployment and implementation;
   15         amending s. 1000.21, F.S.; modifying a definition;
   16         providing that certain common core standards are part
   17         of the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards;
   18         directing the Division of Law Revision and Information
   19         to change the term “Sunshine State Standards” to “Next
   20         Generation Sunshine State Standards” wherever the term
   21         appears in Florida Statutes; providing an effective
   22         date.

   24  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   25  
   26         Section 1. The technology infrastructure, connectivity, and
   27  capacity of all public schools and school districts that
   28  administer statewide standardized assessments pursuant to s.
   29  1008.22, Florida Statutes, including online assessments, shall
   30  be load tested and independently verified as appropriate,
   31  adequate, efficient, and sustainable.
   32         Section 2. Full implementation of online common core
   33  assessments for all kindergarten through grade 12 public school
   34  students shall occur only after the technology infrastructure,
   35  connectivity, and capacity of all public schools and school
   36  districts have been load tested and independently verified as
   37  ready for successful deployment and implementation.
   38         Section 3. Subsection (7) of section 1000.21, Florida
   39  Statutes, is amended to read:
   40         1000.21 Systemwide definitions.—As used in the Florida K-20
   41  Education Code:
   42         (7) “Sunshine State Standards” or the “Next Generation
   43  Sunshine State Standards” means the state’s public K-12
   44  curricular standards, including common core standards in
   45  English/Language Arts and Mathematics, adopted under s. 1003.41.
   46  The term includes the Sunshine State Standards that are in place
   47  for a subject until the standards for that subject are replaced
   48  under s. 1003.41 by the Next Generation Sunshine State
   49  Standards.
   50         Section 4. The Division of Law Revision and Information
   51  shall change “Sunshine State Standards” to “Next Generation
   52  Sunshine State Standards” wherever it appears in Florida
   53  Statutes.
   54         Section 5. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
