Florida Senate - 2013 (NP) SR 1876 By Senator Latvala 20-02543-13 20131876__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing Clearwater Beach’s election 3 by the readers of USA Today as “Florida’s best beach 4 town.” 5 6 WHEREAS, Clearwater Beach stretches along 3 miles of 7 blindingly white sugar-sand beaches on the Sunshine State’s west 8 coast and is one of the top tourist destinations along the Gulf 9 Coast, attracting about four million visitors annually, and 10 WHEREAS, Clearwater Beach was dubbed “the Disney World of 11 beaches” by the Tampa Bay Times, and USA Today noted that it is 12 equal parts "Mad Men-esque" and flip-flop casual, attracting 13 springbreakers, young families, baseball fans, and snowbirds, 14 and 15 WHEREAS, Clearwater Beach was the beneficiary of a $30 16 million makeover in 2008, which created the broad, palm-lined 17 promenade known as Beach Walk, and 18 WHEREAS, Clearwater Beach is the birthplace of Hooters 19 Restaurant and home to both retired professional wrestler and 20 restaurateur Hulk Hogan and Hollywood star Winter, the 21 bottlenose dolphin with the prosthetic tail who resides in the 22 nonprofit Clearwater Marine Aquarium, and 23 WHEREAS, in February 2013, the readers of USA Today elected 24 Clearwater Beach “Florida’s best beach town” from a slate of 10 25 nominees advanced by coastal expert Stephen “Dr. Beach” 26 Leatherman, NOW, THEREFORE, 27 28 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 29 30 That we recognize Clearwater Beach’s election by the 31 readers of USA Today as “Florida’s best beach town.”
