Florida Senate - 2013 (NP) SR 1904 By Senator Bradley 7-04970-13 20131904__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing September 2013 and each 3 September thereafter as “Dystonia Awareness Month.” 4 5 WHEREAS, Dystonia is a neurologic movement disorder 6 characterized by involuntary muscle contractions that often 7 cause painful and debilitating body positions for the victim, 8 and 9 WHEREAS, Dystonia is a nonterminal disease that attacks an 10 otherwise healthy individual who is living a normal life and 11 makes even the simplest of tasks impossible to achieve, and 12 WHEREAS, Dystonia is nondegenerative, and, with the 13 investment of the proper resources, a cure is within reach, and 14 WHEREAS, Dystonia affects an estimated 500,000 people in 15 North America, with a third of all dystonia patients children, 16 and 17 WHEREAS, Tyler’s Hope for a Dystonia Cure has long been 18 recognized as a leading nonprofit organization in Dystonia 19 research and awareness and has teamed up with Dystonia advocacy 20 groups to form Team Dystonia, a coalition aimed at furthering 21 awareness of the disorder across the nation, NOW, THEREFORE, 22 23 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 24 25 That we recognize September 2013 and each September 26 thereafter as “Dystonia Awareness Month.”
