House Comm: RCS . 04/01/2013 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Education (Montford) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 2 3 Delete lines 61 - 97 4 and insert: 5 (c)1. Each public school in the state shall establish a 6 disability history and awareness advisory council. The council 7 at each school shall consist of the following seven members: 8 a. Six teachers who are employed at the public school. 9 b. One individual from the local community who has a 10 disability. 11 2. The responsibilities of the council at each school shall 12 be, but are not limited to: 13 a. Providing to the public school input regarding the 14 curriculum for disability history and awareness; 15 b. Assisting in locating individuals who have disabilities 16 to make presentations at schools; and 17 c. Submitting an annual report to the superintendent of the 18 school district in which the public school is located by August 19 1, 2014, and each year thereafter. The annual report must 20 include, but need not be limited to, recommendations and policy 21 alternatives regarding the state of disability awareness at the 22 public school. 23 3. The council at each school shall meet at least four 24 times a year and more often as needed. 25 26 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 27 And the title is amended as follows: 28 Delete lines 10 - 23 29 and insert: 30 and awareness instruction; requiring each public 31 school to establish a disability history and awareness 32 advisory council; providing membership on the council 33 at each school; providing responsibilities of the 34 council at each school; providing meeting times for 35 the council at each school; providing an effective 36 date.
