Florida Senate - 2013 SB 456 By Senator Garcia 38-00626-13 2013456__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to foreign-trained medical 3 professionals; amending s. 456.022, F.S.; prohibiting 4 the Department of Health from issuing a license to, or 5 renewing the license of, certain persons who travel to 6 the Republic of Cuba to obtain medical training or a 7 medical degree; providing an exemption; providing an 8 effective date. 9 10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11 12 Section 1. Subsection (7) is added to section 456.022, 13 Florida Statutes, to read: 14 456.022 Foreign-trained professionals; special examination 15 and license provisions.— 16 (7) The department, for its boards, shall not issue an 17 initial license to, or renew the license of, any applicant or 18 licensee who is a citizen or resident of the United States and 19 who travels to the Republic of Cuba to obtain medical training 20 or a medical degree for a medical residency program or licensure 21 under chapter 458 or chapter 459. This subsection does not apply 22 to a resident national of the Republic of Cuba who receives 23 medical training or obtains a medical degree before immigrating 24 to the United States. 25 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2013.
