    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to disposition of unclaimed property;
    3         amending s. 717.124, F.S.; authorizing the Department
    4         of Financial Services to adopt rules that allow an
    5         apparent owner of unclaimed property to submit a claim
    6         to the department electronically; providing for
    7         applicability with respect to specified property
    8         reported and remitted to the Chief Financial Officer;
    9         providing an effective date.

   11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   12  
   13         Section 1. Subsections (7) and (8) are added to section
   14  717.124, Florida Statutes, to read:
   15         717.124 Unclaimed property claims.—
   16         (7) The department may allow an apparent owner to
   17  electronically submit a claim for unclaimed property to the
   18  department. If a claim is submitted electronically for $1,000 or
   19  less, the department may use a method of identity verification
   20  other than a copy of a valid driver license, other government
   21  issued photographic identification, or a sworn notarized
   22  statement. The department may adopt rules to implement this
   23  subsection.
   24         (8) This section applies to all unclaimed property reported
   25  and remitted to the Chief Financial Officer, including, but not
   26  limited to, property reported pursuant to ss. 43.19, 45.032,
   27  732.107, 733.816, and 744.534.
   28         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2013.
