Florida Senate - 2014 SCR 1062 By Senator Garcia 38-00864B-14 20141062__ 1 Senate Concurrent Resolution 2 A concurrent resolution creating the Joint Legislative 3 Task Force on Turkish and Florida Relations. 4 5 WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey and the United States are 6 long-standing allies, cherishing the values of freedom, 7 democracy, and human rights, and 8 WHEREAS, in its alliance with the United States, the 9 Republic of Turkey has demonstrated its commitment to world 10 peace and liberty, as well as its tolerance of others in both 11 secular and religious venues, and 12 WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey has the world’s fifteenth 13 largest economy and Europe’s sixth largest economy, and is a 14 valued trading partner with Florida, and 15 WHEREAS, the Republic of Turkey and the State of Florida 16 have enjoyed a strong, vibrant, and mutually beneficial economic 17 relationship with the prospect of future growth, and 18 WHEREAS, there is significant value in strengthening the 19 relational, commercial, and cultural ties between Turkey and the 20 State of Florida and facilitating opportunities to connect with 21 community leaders of diverse cultural and faith backgrounds, and 22 WHEREAS, the Florida Legislature intends to recognize the 23 contributions of our nation’s allies and the value of 24 maintaining beneficial relationships with those allies, NOW, 25 THEREFORE, 26 27 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida, the House 28 of Representatives Concurring: 29 30 That a Joint Legislative Task Force on Turkish and Florida 31 Relations is created for the purpose of strengthening and 32 continuing Florida’s friendship and commercial and cultural ties 33 with the Republic of Turkey and its people and to address issues 34 that impact Turkish Americans in this state. The task force 35 shall be composed of two co-chairs, each appointed by the 36 President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of 37 Representatives, respectively, and members of the Senate and the 38 House of Representatives who desire to participate on the task 39 force, if appointed by the presiding officer of his or her 40 respective legislative chamber. 41 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this concurrent resolution 42 shall take effect upon adoption by the Senate and the House of 43 Representatives and shall govern the Florida Legislature for the 44 remainder of the 2012-2014 term.
