Senator Simpson moved the following:

4 insert:
5 Section 14. The Department of Management Services shall
6 commission a special actuarial study to determine the costs of
7 providing a new death benefit through the pension plan for
8 members of the Florida Retirement System Investment Plan who are
9 killed in the line of duty. The study must examine the costs
10 associated with offering a death benefit that allows the
11 surviving spouse or surviving dependent children of an
12 investment plan member killed in the line of duty to elect the
13 death benefit provided under s. 121.091(7)(d), Florida Statutes,
14 after transferring the value of the member’s investment account
15 to the pension plan, in lieu of the current death benefit
16 provided under the investment plan. The Department of Management
17 Services shall consult with the Legislature about the
18 alternatives to be considered and the level of detail to be
19 included in the special study results. The results of such study
20 shall be provided to the Governor, the President of the Senate,
21 and the Speaker of the House of Representatives by March 1,
22 2015.
