    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing March 20, 2014, as “The
    3         Links, Incorporated, Day at the Capitol” and
    4         applauding the organization’s efforts to create a
    5         better quality of life for the residents of this
    6         state.
    7  
    8         WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, established in 1946 with
    9  its mission and purpose of friendship through community service,
   10  is composed of more than 12,000 members, located in 41 states,
   11  the District of Columbia, and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas,
   12  and
   13         WHEREAS, members of The Links, Incorporated, are women of
   14  African ancestry who are well-educated, highly skilled and
   15  trained, and capable of assisting others in overcoming adverse
   16  conditions and fostering remedies that are critical to the well
   17  being of society, such as science, technology, education, and
   18  mathematics (STEM) education and its effect on African-American
   19  youths, and
   20         WHEREAS, working through its five functional facets,
   21  International Trends and Services, National Trends and Services,
   22  The Arts, Services to Youth, and Health and Human Services, The
   23  Links, Incorporated, relies heavily on the expertise of its
   24  professional members, including computer analysts, engineers,
   25  scientists, statisticians, and educators, who work in
   26  collaboration with other specialists to have a greater impact on
   27  society through relevant and creative initiatives, and
   28         WHEREAS, The Links, Incorporated, is promoting the
   29  eradication of racial disparities in the public’s right to
   30  safety, enhanced student achievement in STEM educational
   31  programs, and increased funding for mentoring programs that
   32  serve at-risk youth populations, and encouraging continued
   33  funding for financial assistance and educational opportunities
   34  for minority students, and
   35         WHEREAS, a host of “Links” representing the 19 Florida
   36  chapters of the Southern Area of The Links, Incorporated, have
   37  converged on the Capitol to show their solidarity and support
   38  for the eradication of racial disparities with regard to the
   39  public’s right to safety, STEM education, increased funding for
   40  mentoring programs for at-risk youths, and sufficient financial
   41  assistance and educational opportunities for minority students,
   42  NOW, THEREFORE,

   44  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   45  
   46         That the Senate welcomes members of The Links,
   47  Incorporated, from the Southern Area, applauds their passion for
   48  STEM education career readiness initiatives, mentoring our youth
   49  and eradicating childhood obesity, and recognizes March 20,
   50  2014, as “The Links, Incorporated, Day at the Capitol.”
   51         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution with
   52  the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Eneid A.
   53  Francis, Southern Area Director of The Links, Incorporated, as a
   54  tangible token of the sentiments expressed in this resolution.
