Florida Senate - 2014 (NP) SR 1704 By Senator Margolis 35-03089-14 20141704__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing April 2 and 3, 2014, as 3 “Miami-Dade County Days at the Capitol” and 4 celebrating the 26th anniversary of this event. 5 6 WHEREAS, greater Miami-Dade County contains thousands of 7 businesses that employ millions of people and is the site of 8 foreign consulates, international trade offices, and binational 9 chambers of commerce, and 10 WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is a center of world finance, 11 with hundreds of financial institutions and foreign agencies 12 within its boundaries, and 13 WHEREAS, the film and music industries have made Miami-Dade 14 County one of the largest entertainment production centers in 15 the nation, and 16 WHEREAS, agriculture continues to provide millions of 17 dollars annually in economic activity to Miami-Dade County, and 18 the agricultural industry has diversified in such a manner that 19 Miami-Dade County is now one of the largest producers in the 20 United States of tropical fruits, ornamental plants, and fish, 21 and 22 WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is currently experiencing a 23 cultural boom in world-class entertainment and cultural 24 activities, which is evidenced by the thousands of nonprofit 25 cultural organizations offering dance, theater, music, visual 26 arts, and other festivals and special events, and 27 WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County community is a microcosm of 28 the world in which scores of countries are represented and 29 diverse languages are spoken daily, and 30 WHEREAS, 26 years ago, the late Representative John F. 31 Cosgrove, as chairperson of the former Dade County legislative 32 delegation, worked with the private sector to create what is now 33 Miami-Dade County Days at the Capitol, NOW, THEREFORE, 34 35 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 36 37 That the Florida Senate recognizes April 2 and 3, 2014, as 38 “Miami-Dade County Days at the Capitol” and celebrates the 26th 39 anniversary of this event.
