Florida Senate - 2014 (NP) SR 1716 By Senator Sobel 33-02608-14 20141716__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution commending the osteopathic physicians of 3 this state and recognizing April 9, 2014, as 4 “Osteopathic Medicine Day” in Florida. 5 6 WHEREAS, there are currently more than 70,000 osteopathic 7 physicians in the United States, and 8 WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide health care 9 services that account for more than 76 million patient visits 10 nationwide each year, and 11 WHEREAS, this state has three accredited osteopathic 12 hospitals, two osteopathic medical colleges, and the third 13 largest osteopathic physician population in the nation, and 14 WHEREAS, osteopathic manipulation of the musculoskeletal 15 system is a viable and proven technique for many diagnoses and 16 treatments and provides an alternative to many drug therapies, 17 and 18 WHEREAS, osteopathic physicians provide comprehensive 19 medical care, including preventive medicine, medical diagnosis, 20 and the appropriate balance of drugs, surgery, manipulation, and 21 hospital referrals, and contribute greatly to the health and 22 welfare of the residents of this state, NOW, THEREFORE, 23 24 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 25 26 That the osteopathic physicians of this state are commended 27 and April 9, 2014, is recognized as “Osteopathic Medicine Day” 28 in Florida.
