Florida Senate - 2014 (NP) SR 1754 By Senator Thompson 12-04419A-14 20141754__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing the Class 7A 2014 state 3 champion Wekiva High School girls basketball team. 4 5 WHEREAS, the 2014 Wekiva High School girls basketball team 6 finished the season with an outstanding record of 26 wins and 6 7 losses, and 8 WHEREAS, the 2014 Wekiva High School girls basketball team 9 was ranked 16th in the state and won the district, regional, and 10 state championships, and 11 WHEREAS, the 2014 Wekiva High School girls basketball team 12 finished the season as the number one Class 7A girls basketball 13 team in Florida, and 14 WHEREAS, on February 22, 2014, the 2014 Wekiva High School 15 girls basketball team defeated the Harmony High School girls 16 basketball team by a score of 59 to 48 to win the Class 7A State 17 Championship, becoming the first team in school history to win a 18 state championship, and 19 WHEREAS, the 2014 Wekiva High School girls basketball team 20 was led to victory by Coaches Tommie Butts, Keshia Brown 21 Griffin, Latoya Russ, and Rianna Jenkins; Athletic Director 22 Lamarr Glenn; and Principal Elise Gruber, and 23 WHEREAS, the 2014 Wekiva High School girls basketball team 24 consisted of outstanding players Brittany Alexander, Kyla 25 Allison, Katie Atkins, Ariel Colon, Ciara Cumbie, Yolizma 26 Cupidan, Jamilynn Garcia, Tyra Graham, Alexis Moody, Bianca 27 Smith-Paez, and Tehya Perry, and 28 WHEREAS, the 2014 Wekiva High School girls basketball team 29 accomplished much over the course of the 2013-2014 season 30 through hard work and with competitive team spirit, earning the 31 admiration and support of the residents of Apopka and the 32 surrounding community, NOW, THEREFORE, 33 34 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 35 36 That the outstanding accomplishments of the 2014 Wekiva 37 High School girls basketball team are recognized and the 38 athletic ability, model sportsmanship, and honorable citizenship 39 demonstrated by all team members are applauded.
