Florida Senate - 2014 (NP) SR 1766 By Senator Montford 3-05221-14 20141766__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing Deputy Robert Lundy, of the 3 Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, for his swift and 4 courageous response to an assailant at Timberland Ford 5 in Perry. 6 7 WHEREAS, on February 5, 2014, Steinhatchee native Robert 8 Lundy, a deputy with the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office, stopped 9 at Timberland Ford in Perry to have his patrol car serviced, and 10 WHEREAS, within minutes of Deputy Robert Lundy’s arrival at 11 Timberland Ford, an employee of the car dealership crashed his 12 vehicle through the front of the building and opened fire on 13 those in the dealership, and 14 WHEREAS, without regard for his own safety, Deputy Robert 15 Lundy immediately responded to the shooting, exchanging gunfire 16 with the assailant, who later died, and 17 WHEREAS, Deputy Robert Lundy was one of three people shot 18 by the assailant, suffering a stomach wound and eye trauma, and 19 WHEREAS, Deputy Robert Lundy was transported to U.F. Health 20 Shands Hospital in Gainesville, where he spent several weeks in 21 a coma, and 22 WHEREAS, throughout the ordeal, Kelly Lundy was by her 23 husband’s bedside, making the roughly 3-hour round trip drive 24 each day to encourage and support him, and 25 WHEREAS, on April 11, 2014, Deputy Robert Lundy returned 26 home to Steinhatchee a hero, recognized by the Taylor County 27 Sheriff’s Office and local residents for his quick and life 28 saving response to the tragic attack in Perry, and 29 WHEREAS, Deputy Robert Lundy faces a long recovery in 30 regaining the ability to walk unassisted and is permanently 31 blind in one eye and suffers from vision loss in the other, and 32 WHEREAS, the residents of Taylor County and all Floridians 33 owe a debt of gratitude to Deputy Robert Lundy for his service 34 in the law enforcement community and his sacrifice in the line 35 of duty, NOW, THEREFORE, 36 37 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 38 39 That Deputy Robert Lundy, of the Taylor County Sheriff’s 40 Office, is recognized for his swift and courageous response to 41 an assailant at Timberland Ford in Perry, which avoided further 42 loss of life. 43 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be 44 presented to Deputy Robert Lundy as a tangible token of the 45 sentiments expressed in this resolution.
