1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to physical therapy practice; amending
3 ss. 486.051 and 486.104, F.S.; increasing the number
4 of times an applicant for licensure as a physical
5 therapist or physical therapist assistant may take the
6 license examination; providing an effective date.

8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. Section 486.051, Florida Statutes, is amended to
11 read:
12 486.051 Physical therapist; examination of applicant.—The
13 examination examinations of an applicant for licensure licensing
14 as a physical therapist shall be in accordance with rules
15 adopted by the board to evaluate, to test the applicant’s
16 qualifications and includes shall include the taking of a test
17 by the applicant. If an applicant fails to pass the examination
18 after in three attempts, the applicant is shall not be eligible
19 for reexamination unless she or he completes additional
20 educational or training requirements prescribed by the board. An
21 applicant who has completed the additional educational or
22 training requirements prescribed by the board may take the
23 examination on two more occasions. If the applicant fails has
24 failed to pass the examination after five attempts, she or he
25 must repeat the additional educational or training requirements
26 prescribed by the board. If the applicant fails to pass the
27 examination after a total of 10 attempts in this or any other
28 state, he or she is permanently barred from taking is no longer
29 eligible to take the examination.
30 Section 2. Section 486.104, Florida Statutes, is amended to
31 read:
32 486.104 Physical therapist assistant; examination of
33 applicant.—The examination of an applicant for licensure
34 licensing as a physical therapist assistant shall be in
35 accordance with rules adopted by the board to evaluate, to test
36 the applicant’s qualifications and includes shall include the
37 taking of a test by the applicant. If an applicant fails to pass
38 the examination after in three attempts, the applicant is shall
39 not be eligible for reexamination unless she or he completes
40 additional educational or training requirements prescribed by
