    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to an occupational certificate of
    3         completion; amending s. 1003.4282, F.S; authorizing a
    4         student who is eligible to receive a certificate of
    5         completion to remain in high school for an additional
    6         year to earn a standard diploma or an occupational
    7         certificate of completion; providing an effective
    8         date.

   10  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   11  
   12         Section 1. Paragraph (c) of subsection (7) of section
   13  1003.4282, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   14         1003.4282 Requirements for a standard high school diploma.—
   15         (7) AWARD OF A STANDARD HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA.—
   16         (c) A student who earns the required 24 credits, or the
   17  required 18 credits under s. 1002.3105(5), but fails to pass the
   18  assessments required under s. 1008.22(3) or achieve a 2.0 GPA
   19  shall be awarded a certificate of completion in a form
   20  prescribed by the State Board of Education. However, a student
   21  who is otherwise entitled to a certificate of completion may, at
   22  the conclusion of the student’s 12th grade year, elect to remain
   23  in high school either as a full-time student or a part-time
   24  student for up to 1 additional year to:
   25         1.and Receive special instruction designed to remedy his
   26  or her identified deficiencies to earn a standard diploma; or
   27         2. Earn at least one industry certification identified
   28  pursuant to s. 1008.44 and document completion of the equivalent
   29  of at least one full semester of successful employment, with
   30  payment of at least minimum wage in compliance with the federal
   31  Fair Labor Standards Act, in order to earn an occupational
   32  certificate of completion in a form prescribed by the State
   33  Board of Education.
   34         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2015.
