1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to driver licenses and identification
3 cards; amending ss. 322.051 and 322.14, F.S.;
4 authorizing the word “Veteran” to be exhibited on the
5 driver license or identification card of a veteran;
6 providing applicability; providing an effective date.

8 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

10 Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subsection (8) of section
11 322.051, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
12 322.051 Identification cards.—
13 (8)
14 (b) The word “Veteran” A capital “V” shall be exhibited on
15 the identification card of a veteran upon the payment of an
16 additional $1 fee for the identification card license and the
17 presentation of a copy of the person’s DD Form 214, issued by
18 the United States Department of Defense, or another acceptable
19 form specified by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Until a
20 veteran’s identification card is next renewed, the veteran may
21 have the word “Veteran” capital “V” designation added to his or
22 her identification card upon surrender of his or her current
23 identification card, payment of a $2 fee to be deposited into
24 the Highway Safety Operating Trust Fund, and presentation of a
25 copy of his or her DD Form 214 or another acceptable form
26 specified by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. If the
27 applicant is not conducting any other transaction affecting the
28 identification card, a replacement identification card may be
29 issued with the word “Veteran” capital “V” designation without
30 payment of the fee required in s. 322.21(1)(f)3.
31 Section 2. Paragraph (c) of subsection (1) of section
32 322.14, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
33 322.14 Licenses issued to drivers.—
34 (1)
35 (c) The word “Veteran” A capital “V” shall be exhibited on
36 the driver license of a veteran upon the payment of an
37 additional $1 fee for the license and the presentation of a copy
38 of the person’s DD Form 214, issued by the United States
39 Department of Defense, or another acceptable form specified by
40 the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. Until a veteran’s license
41 is next renewed, the veteran may have the word “Veteran” capital
42 “V” designation added to his or her license upon surrender of
43 his or her current license, payment of a $2 fee to be deposited
44 into the Highway Safety Operating Trust Fund, and presentation
45 of a copy of his or her DD Form 214 or another acceptable form
46 specified by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. If the
47 applicant is not conducting any other transaction affecting the
48 driver license, a replacement license may be issued with the
49 word “Veteran” capital “V” designation without payment of the
50 fee required in s. 322.21(1)(e).
51 Section 3. The amendments made by this act to ss. 322.051
52 and 322.14, Florida Statutes, shall apply upon implementation of
53 new designs for the driver license and identification card by
54 the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
55 Section 4. This act shall take effect July 1, 2015.
