    2         A resolution recognizing April 2015 as “Volunteer
    3         Month” in Florida.
    4  
    5         WHEREAS, volunteers serve every day in this state, making
    6  our communities safer, stronger, and healthier, and
    7         WHEREAS, volunteers improve the lives of our most
    8  vulnerable citizens, including seniors, children, and those with
    9  unique abilities, and
   10         WHEREAS, volunteers help Florida job seekers by providing
   11  job coaching and professional development skills, creating a
   12  significant economic development impact, and
   13         WHEREAS, state and local government leaders are
   14  increasingly turning to volunteers as a cost-effective solution
   15  to local challenges, while also saving taxpayer dollars, and
   16         WHEREAS, volunteering can increase an individual’s
   17  employment prospects by helping the job seeker to learn new
   18  skills, expand his or her professional network, and prepare for
   19  leadership roles, and
   20         WHEREAS, volunteers in Florida serve as tutors and mentors
   21  at schools, helping students achieve academic success and
   22  preparing them for the workforce, and
   23         WHEREAS, volunteers in this state support veterans by
   24  providing job training and engaging them in community service,
   25  and
   26         WHEREAS, volunteers in Florida are critical to our state’s
   27  emergency management efforts, responding to floods, hurricanes,
   28  fires, tornadoes, and other disasters, and
   29         WHEREAS, volunteers in Florida work to protect and restore
   30  our precious natural resources, from beaches and rivers to
   31  forests, lakes, and other sensitive habitats, and
   32         WHEREAS, Volunteer Florida serves as the lead agency for
   33  service and volunteerism in Florida, administering millions of
   34  dollars in funding to grant recipients across this state and
   35  promoting volunteerism by mobilizing Floridians to serve, NOW,
   36  THEREFORE,

   38  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

   40         That April 2015 is recognized as “Volunteer Month” in
   41  Florida.
