Florida Senate - 2015 (NP) SR 1616 By Senator Hays 11-02659-15 20151616__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution congratulating Kiwanis International on 3 the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its founding 4 and recognizing the organization’s commitment to 5 improving the lives of children and youth around the 6 world. 7 8 WHEREAS, Kiwanis International was founded and incorporated 9 in Detroit, Michigan, on January 21, 1915, and currently has 10 277,025 adult members in 8,176 adult clubs and 351,277 youth 11 members in 7,900 youth clubs in more than 80 countries around 12 the world, and 13 WHEREAS, the Florida District is composed of more than 270 14 clubs and more than 9,000 Kiwanians, and 15 WHEREAS, in 2015, Kiwanis International is celebrating its 16 100th anniversary and, through its clubs’ efforts, has raised 17 more than $100 million for the United Nations Children’s Fund 18 through its Worldwide Service Project for Iodine Deficiency 19 Disorder, the world’s leading preventable cause of mental 20 retardation, and has pledged to raise more than $110 million for 21 the Eliminate Project, which combats maternal and neonatal 22 tetanus, and 23 WHEREAS, in following its motto, “Serving the Children of 24 the World,” Kiwanis International clubs annually sponsor more 25 than 150,000 service projects, raise $100 million, and devote 26 more than 18.5 million hours to service, and 27 WHEREAS, the Kiwanis family consists not only of Kiwanis 28 clubs but K-Kids clubs in elementary schools, Builders Club in 29 middle schools, Key Club in high schools, Circle K International 30 clubs at colleges and universities, and Aktion Club for adults 31 who live with limited abilities, NOW, THEREFORE, 32 33 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 34 35 That Kiwanis International is congratulated on the occasion 36 of the 100th anniversary of its founding and recognized for its 37 commitment to improving the lives of children and youth around 38 the world.
