    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing October 14-24, 2015, in
    3         commemoration of the life and legacy of Chef Earl
    4         Peyroux.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, Chef Earl Peyroux was born on October 24, 1924, in
    7  New Orleans, where he inherited a love for Creole cooking from
    8  his mother and grandmother and at a young age realized that
    9  gourmet cooking need not be expensive or complicated, and
   10         WHEREAS, Chef Earl Peyroux studied at Le Cordon Bleu in
   11  Paris, was invited by the Spanish government to study at
   12  Alambique Cooking School in Madrid, and studied with culinary
   13  legends Julia Child, Jacques Pépin, Paul Prudhomme, Giuliano
   14  Bugialli, Marcella Hazan, and Shoeman Tsunoda, and
   15         WHEREAS, in the 1970s, Chef Earl Peyroux moved to
   16  Pensacola, where he dedicated his time to teaching and sharing
   17  his extensive culinary knowledge with students at Pensacola
   18  Junior College, which is now Pensacola State College, and
   19         WHEREAS, Chef Earl Peyroux developed the pioneering cooking
   20  program “Gourmet Cooking,” which first aired in 1977, ran for
   21  660 episodes over 18 years, and was syndicated nationwide by 140
   22  public broadcasting stations, and
   23         WHEREAS, “Gourmet Cooking” was one of the first television
   24  programs of its kind, inspiring beginner and professional chefs
   25  alike, motivating many people to choose culinary arts careers,
   26  and leading to an entire genre of demonstration cooking shows,
   27  and
   28         WHEREAS, Chef Earl Peyroux authored seven cookbooks
   29  featuring Creole and French-inspired dishes and is remembered as
   30  a Southern gentleman whose love of cooking was rivaled only by
   31  his desire to share his cooking tips with others, and
   32         WHEREAS, Chef Earl Peyroux passed away on October 23, 2003,
   33  after a long and distinguished career, NOW, THEREFORE,
   34  
   35  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   36  
   37         That, in honor of Chef Earl Peyroux’s development of one of
   38  the first nationally syndicated cooking programs on public
   39  television and his tireless work on behalf of Pensacola State
   40  College and WSRE-TV, the public broadcasting station for the
   41  Gulf Coast, October 14-24, 2015, is recognized in commemoration
   42  of his contributions to the City of Pensacola, the State of
   43  Florida, and the nation.
