Subsection (3) of section 1003.455, Florida 7 Statutes, is amended, and subsection (6) is added to that 8 section, to read: 9 1003.455 Physical education; assessment.— 10 (3) Each district school board shall provide 150 minutes of 11 physical education each week for students in kindergarten 12 through grade 5 and for students in grade 6 who are enrolled in 13 a school that contains one or more elementary grades so that on 14 any day during which physical education instruction is conducted 15 there are at least 30 consecutive minutes of physical education 16 instruction per day. Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, 17 the equivalent of one class period per day of physical education 18 for one semester of each year is required for students enrolled 19 in grades 6 through 8. Students enrolled in such instruction 20 shall be reported through the periodic student membership 21 surveys, and records of such enrollment shall be audited 22 pursuant to s. 1010.305. Such instruction may be provided by any 23 instructional personnel as defined in s. 1012.01(2), regardless 24 of certification, who are designated by the school principal. 25 (6) In addition to the requirements in subsection (3), each 26 classroom teacher is required to allow their students at least 27 150 minutes of supervised, safe, and unstructured free-play 28 recess each week for students in kindergarten through grade 5 29 and for students in grade 6 who are enrolled in a school that 30 contains one or more elementary grades so that there are at 31 least 15 consecutive minutes of free-play recess in the morning 32 and 15 consecutive minutes of free-play recess in the afternoon 33 per day. 34 35 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 36 And the title is amended as follows: 37 Delete line 2680 38 and insert: 39 credit; amending s. 1003.455, F.S.; requiring each 40 classroom teacher to allow students in certain grades 41 a specified number of consecutive minutes of free-play 42 recess per day; amending s. 1004.935, F.S.; deleting 43 the
