Florida Senate - 2016 (NP) SR 1790 By Senator Gaetz 1-04336-16 20161790__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing July 15, 2016, as “Boeing 3 Centennial Day” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, founded by William Boeing in 1916, Boeing has 6 become a leader in the commercial and military aerospace 7 industries, setting standards for excellence in science and 8 technology, and 9 WHEREAS, in its 100-year history, Boeing has been 10 responsible for innovations in passenger airplanes, military 11 aircraft, missiles, satellites, and spacecraft and has helped 12 the United States and the world cross frontiers in aerospace 13 technologies, and 14 WHEREAS, Boeing’s heritage includes the Douglas DC-3, the 15 first passenger airplane widely used by airlines; the iconic B 16 52 Stratofortress, in use by the United States military for 61 17 years; and the 707 and 747, which launched the jetliner era, and 18 WHEREAS, every American spacecraft that has carried 19 astronauts into space was designed and built by companies that 20 are now part of Boeing, and 21 WHEREAS, as a key player in commercial aerospace 22 operations, national defense support, and space exploration, 23 Boeing employs an estimated 1,400 individuals at multiple 24 locations in this state and directly and indirectly supports 25 33,000 jobs, and 26 WHEREAS, Boeing’s Special Operations Forces Aerospace 27 Support Center, located in Fort Walton Beach, supports United 28 States Air Force Special Operations Command at Hurlburt Field 29 through the modification, testing, repair, and service of AC 30 130U and CV-22 platforms and other equipment, and 31 WHEREAS, Boeing’s presence in Jacksonville includes a 32 structural repair facility for the United States Navy and Marine 33 Corps F/A-18 aircraft; the manufacturing and development site 34 for the United States Air Force’s QF-16 full-scale aerial target 35 at Cecil Field; and flight, tactical, and maintenance training 36 systems development and instruction for the United States Navy’s 37 P-8A Poseidon aircraft, and 38 WHEREAS, Boeing is the prime contractor for the 39 International Space Station and, as such, has program personnel 40 at Florida’s Space Coast and NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space 41 Center, and 42 WHEREAS, Boeing is building the core stage of NASA’s new 43 heavy-lift rocket, the Space Launch System, and Boeing engineers 44 are located at the Space Coast to oversee the design aspects of 45 the project, and 46 WHEREAS, the John F. Kennedy Space Center serves as home to 47 Boeing’s Commercial Crew Program, which is responsible for 48 building the CST-100 Starliner crew capsule that will transport 49 NASA astronauts to the International Space Station, returning 50 Americans to space from Florida, and 51 WHEREAS, Boeing Flight Services, in Miami, is the company’s 52 largest commercial aviation global training campus and the pro 53 forma training facility for Boeing in the Americas, consisting 54 of 16 full-flight simulators that offer training for all Boeing 55 7-Series airplanes, and 56 WHEREAS, Boeing’s success has been due in great part to the 57 hard work and dedication of countless employees over the years, 58 many of whom serve as leaders in their communities, and 59 WHEREAS, in 2014, Boeing and its employees in this state 60 contributed more than $5 million and many volunteer hours to 61 worthy charitable causes, and 62 WHEREAS, Boeing will commemorate its centennial on July 15, 63 2016, and throughout the year with events that highlight the 64 collaboration between its employees, suppliers, partners, and 65 local communities to ensure outstanding service and equipment 66 for the nation’s men and women in uniform, the next generation 67 of space explorers, and the flying public, NOW, THEREFORE, 68 69 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 70 71 That July 15, 2016, is recognized as “Boeing Centennial 72 Day” in Florida.
