    1                    Senate Concurrent Resolution                   
    2         A concurrent resolution ratifying the proposed
    3         amendment to the Constitution of the United States
    4         relating to equal rights for men and women.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, during the second session of the 92nd Congress of
    7  the United States of America, by a constitutional majority of
    8  two-thirds, both houses approved the Equal Rights Amendment, and
    9         WHEREAS, on March 22, 1972, this proposed amendment to the
   10  Constitution of the United States was sent to the states for
   11  ratification, and
   12         WHEREAS, Article V of the United States Constitution
   13  authorizes the Florida Legislature to ratify proposed amendments
   14  to the Constitution of the United States, and
   15         WHEREAS, 35 of the necessary 38 states ratified the Equal
   16  Rights Amendment, and
   17         WHEREAS, constitutional equality for men and women
   18  continues to be timely in the United States and worldwide, and
   19  many other nations have achieved constitutional equality for
   20  their men and women, NOW, THEREFORE,

   22  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida, the House
   23  of Representatives Concurring:
   24  
   25         That the proposed amendment to the Constitution of the
   26  United States set forth below is ratified by the Legislature of
   27  the State of Florida.
   28                            “Article ____                          
   29         “SECTION 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be
   30  denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on
   31  account of sex.
   32         “SECTION 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce,
   33  by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
   34         “SECTION 3. This amendment shall take effect two years
   35  after the date of ratification.”
   36         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of the
   37  foregoing preamble and resolution be immediately forwarded by
   38  the Secretary of State of the State of Florida, under the Great
   39  Seal of this state, to the President of the United States, the
   40  Secretary of State of the United States, the President of the
   41  Senate of the United States, the Speaker of the House of
   42  Representatives of the United States, and the Acting
   43  Administrator of General Services Administration of the United
   44  States.
