Florida Senate - 2016 SB 876 By Senator Sachs 34-01152A-16 2016876__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to insurance coverage for devices 3 incident to mastectomy; providing a short title; 4 amending s. 627.6417, F.S.; specifying that prosthetic 5 devices that are required to be covered under a 6 certain policy include a specified cranial prosthesis; 7 providing an effective date. 8 9 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 10 11 Section 1. This act may be cited as “Nonni’s Law.” 12 Section 2. Subsection (1) of section 627.6417, Florida 13 Statutes, is amended to read: 14 627.6417 Coverage for surgical procedures and devices 15 incident to mastectomy.— 16 (1) Any health insurance policy that provides coverage for 17 mastectomies must also provide coverage for prosthetic devices, 18 including one cranial prosthesis prescribed as a result of hair 19 loss associated with chemotherapy treatment following the 20 mastectomy, and breast reconstructive surgery incident to the 21 mastectomy. The insurer may charge an appropriate additional 22 premium for the coverage required by this subsection. The 23 coverage for prosthetic devices and breast reconstructive 24 surgery shall be subject to any deductible and coinsurance 25 conditions and all other terms and conditions applicable to 26 other benefits. Breast reconstructive surgery must be in a 27 manner chosen by the treating physician, consistent with 28 prevailing medical standards, and in consultation with the 29 patient. 30 Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2016.
