House Comm: RCS . 04/04/2017 . . . . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— The Committee on Judiciary (Artiles) recommended the following: 1 Senate Amendment 2 3 Delete lines 74 - 98 4 and insert: 5 WHEREAS, the district and Lillian Beauchamp, as the 6 personal representative of the estate of Aaron Beauchamp, have 7 reached a settlement agreement in the amount $1.5 million, NOW, 8 THEREFORE, 9 10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11 12 Section 1. The facts stated in the preamble to this act are 13 found and declared to be true. 14 Section 2. The St. Lucie County School District is 15 authorized and directed to appropriate from its funds not 16 otherwise encumbered and, on or before November 1, 2017, to draw 17 a warrant in the amount of $1.5 million payable to Lillian 18 Beauchamp, as the personal representative of the estate of Aaron 19 Beauchamp, as compensation for damages sustained in connection 20 with his wrongful death. 21 Section 3. The amount awarded under this act is intended to 22 provide the sole compensation for all present and future claims 23 arising out of the factual situation described in this act which 24 resulted in the wrongful death of Aaron Beauchamp. Of the amount 25 awarded under this act, the total amount paid for attorney fees 26 may not exceed $300,000, the total amount paid for lobbying fees 27 may not exceed $75,000, and the total amount paid for costs and 28 other similar expenses relating to this claim may not exceed 29 $4,246.02.
