1 A bill to be entitled
2 An act relating to juror compensation; amending s.
3 40.24, F.S.; revising the daily compensation rate for
4 juror service; providing an annual increase in
5 compensation based on the rate of inflation; requiring
6 the clerk of the circuit court to certify each month
7 to the Chief Financial Officer the amount of funds
8 expended related to juror compensation; requiring the
9 Chief Financial Officer to verify the amount expended
10 and to distribute funds to cover such amount from the
11 General Revenue Fund; providing an effective date.

13 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

15 Section 1. Paragraph (b) of subsection (3) and subsection
16 (4) of section 40.24, Florida Statutes, are amended, and
17 subsection (9) is added to that section, to read:
18 40.24 Compensation and reimbursement policy.—
19 (3)
20 (b) Jurors who are not regularly employed or who do not
21 continue to receive regular wages while serving as a juror are
22 entitled to receive $64.80 $15 per day for the first 10 3 days
23 of juror service. Beginning January 1, 2018, and each January 1
24 thereafter, compensation for such juror service shall increase
25 by the rate of inflation, as determined pursuant to s.
26 448.110(4).
27 (4) Each juror who serves more than 10 3 days is entitled
28 to be paid by the clerk of the circuit court for the 11th fourth
29 day of service and each day thereafter at the rate of $97.20 $30
30 per day of service. Beginning January 1, 2018, and each January
31 1 thereafter, compensation for such juror service shall increase
32 by the rate of inflation, as determined pursuant to s.
33 448.110(4).
34 (9) Beginning October 1, 2017, and on the first day of each
35 month thereafter, each clerk of the circuit court shall certify
36 to the Chief Financial Officer the amount of funds expended by
37 the clerk in the previous month to compensate jurors and for
38 costs of managing juror compensation and reimbursement pursuant
39 to this section and shall request the distribution of such
40 amount from the General Revenue Fund. The Chief Financial
41 Officer shall, within 10 days after receipt of such
42 certification, audit the certification, verify the amount of
43 funds expended by the clerk, and distribute such amount to the
44 clerk from the General Revenue Fund.
45 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2017.
